This single-day workshop was held on 29 March 2026. It was co-facilitated by artists-in-residence Frances Goodman and Jeremy Wafer. Where Goodman provided students with an introduction to sustained artist practice, emphasising gallery relations and professional development, Wafer focused on an active studio context, exploring alternate ways to sustain an artistic practice outside of the gallery system, whilst providing participants with a behind-the-scenes glimpse into his material processes. This follows a recent lecture at the University of Pretoria (25 March 2026) in which Wafer spoke about the ideas, forms and processes that underpin the body of sculptures for his exhibition Clouding Over in the Centre’s Project Space, as part of the Soil & Water programme. This includes his ongoing body of artworks featuring towels, various measuring apparatus, found objects such as emergency blankets and materials like salt and bitumen.
